Founder and leader of the Progressive People’s Party, Paa Kwesi Ndoum says the party is determined to have Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives elected if given the nod in the 2016 election. 

He believes the partial decentralization system being operated for the past three decades has not sped up national development.

Dr. Ndoum made this comment at the 2nd National Convention to elect party officers at Takoradi in the Western Region.

“We are the ones who are saying that the Attorney General should be independent and the Minister of Justice should be the president’s lawyer so that if anyone does anything wrong politics will not be there to save them so that corruption can be attacked actively.

“We are also the only political party saying that if our people are smart enough to cast a vote to elect an MP and Assembly Member, they are also smart enough to cast a vote to elect their District Chief Executive. The PPP is saying that it is time for us to elect our MMDCEs”, he added.

He reiterated the PPP’s promise to provide quality free education which will be compulsory for every Ghanaian child.

“Free compulsory continuous education from kindergarten to the end of senior high school is what we mean. The constitution does not only say free education but free compulsory education. It is only the PPP that is insisting that our constitution says compulsory education and we will bring it to Ghanaians”.

There was no election at the PPP National convention. All six current national executives were retained in office by popular acclamation.

They include Nii Allotey Brew Hammond as the National Chairman, the National Vice Chairman went to Wiilaim Dowokpor, they had Belinda Bulley as the Second Vice Chairman, Ben Salliah as the third Vice Chairman, Mutala Mohammed as the National Secretary and the treasurer went to Felix Ogra. 

The National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond says the party is determined to have a credible voters register for the 2016 elections.
