The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) last Friday, received a warm reception from the electorate when its flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, led a team to tour three constituencies in the Eastern Region.
The team included the national secretary, Mr. Kofi Asamoah Siaw, and the National Committee Member, Mrs. Akomah Boakye-Boateng.
It was a tour which brought to the fore, the party's unique strength in the Akyem Oda, Lower West Akyem and Akyem Swedru constituencies.
At Akyem Oda and Asamankese, business activities virtually came to a halt as people thronged the streets to show their support to the party and catch a glimpse of the party's presidential candidate also referred to as “Edwumawura”.
Addressing party faithful at separate grounds, Dr. Nduom said he appreciated the works done by the previous governments, but pleaded with Ghanaians to give the PPP the opportunity to solve the many problems that remained unresolved.
These include the provision of free but compulsory education from kindergarten to senior high school and the prevalence of preventable diseases such as malaria and cholera.
He added that the money to fund the various initiatives could easily be generated internally through prudent management of resources and placing priorities right.
According to the PPP presidential candidate; the country is currently faced with huge unemployment problems.
Dr. Nduom said the party was made up of the best men and women determined to govern the country with a sense of urgency and commitment.
He said incorruptible leadership could deal effectively with corruption and effective administration and as a result false government revenue significantly.
The PPP presidential candidate used the opportunity to produce the party’s parliamentary candidates to the electorate and urged Ghanaians to vote for them in the pending elections.
The candidates are Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw; Akyem Oda, Mr. Andrew Adjei Danso for Lower West Akyem and Mr Amankwa Maafo for Akyem Swedru.
