Prostate cancer may just be included in the list of diseases that are paid for by health insurance if the right noises are made.
Treatment of the disease which afflicts mainly adult males is currently not covered by the scheme even though a recent survey suggests an increasing number of men are suffering from the disease.
Ghana currently records 200 cases out of every 100,000 men, significantly above the normal limit of 170 to a hundred thousand.
The National Health Insurance scheme takes care of patients with breast cancer and Director of Clinical Audit, Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby tells Joy News an amendment could be made in an ongoing review to include prostate cancer.
“If the ministry or Parliament decides that this is a major health problem for Ghanaians, they will make the necessary amendment,” she added.
