The NDC MP for Nkwanta North in the Volta Region, Mr. John Kwabena Oti Bless has says his constituency is the most deprived in the region.
“The whole Northern Volta is deprived in terms of development but the Nkwanta North constituency stands tall among others,” he said.
The MP was speaking on ‘Burning Issues’ on Adom FM and Asempa FM on Monday.
Talking about roads, Mr. Bless noted that the entire constituency cannot boast of a single tarred road.
He said lack proper access roads, from the farm to the market, is affecting the economic development of the area.
Mr. Bless observed that of the whole Nkwanta North district, which comprises of about 80 plus communities, only five have access to electricity, and this poses a major challenge to residents of the area.
The MP noted that there is no hospital in the district so pregnant women and sick people are usually conveyed to health centres in nearby districts for treatment.
“Pregnant women bear the brunt of this lack of adequate health facilities because motorbikes are the only means of transport and heavily pregnant women always have to be carried in motorbikes for miles all the way to Nkwanta South district for healthcare,” he said.
Mr. Bless said as a result of the hustle, the maternal mortality in that district is one of the highest in the country.
Mr. Bless is therefore appealing to the President and the respective ministers to provide better roads, hospitals, access to electricity and other infrastructural development in the area.
