Former Deputy Information Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye says some of the projects the New Patriotic Party (NPP) highlighted during their Town Hall meeting on infrastructure are ridiculous and mediocre.

“I have seen speed rumps and signages, solitary unplastered toilets, solitary poly tanks sitting in some corners labelled as water projects. No government in this day and age should be touting that,” he told Evans Mensah on Top Story, Wednesday.

According to him, it is disappointing the governing party are showing off such projects adding, “we don’t believe that they merit the sort of hype and hoopla that the NPP is attributing to it.”

He claimed the NPP government has had at least not less than ¢300 billion from all sources including revenues loans and grants, hence, they are is expected to do far more.

Citing an example, Mr Ofosu Kwakye stated that government could have invested in a water project that could provide more communities with water like the NDC did with their 40 million gallon a day Kpong Water Expansion Project.

“We ensured that 700,000 people living in the north-eastern part of Accra and part of the Eastern Region received water on a daily bases. That serves 80 communities,” he argued.

The former Deputy Information Minister explained that expanded water projects like that of the NDC impact more lives than a single poly tank being touted as infrastructure by the NPP.

“Their achievements are so mediocre yet they have the confidence to tell Ghanaians that their four years in power have seen greater achievements than the eight years of the NDC."

However, reacting to Mr Ofosu Kwakye's comments, Economic Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako said that the projects that are being downplayed are equally essential to some Ghanaians.

"There are some people whose needs are very huge, there are others whose needs are quite basic," he said.

He added, "If any government cares about the people, they should not just be thinking about the huge magnificent infrastructure that addresses the needs of the very few."

The NPP, Dr Boako stated, is focused on creating infrastructure for all Ghanaians and not a select few.
