The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for New Abirem has called on the party’s National Executives to annul the constituency elections in the region due to widespread irregularities.
According to Mrs Esther Obeng Dapaah she - being the party’s political head of the constituency was not consulted during the election process.
Among other things she accused the regional chairman of the constituency, Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng of manipulating events in order to retain his position.
“They did not follow the procedures. They did what they like. And the MP is the political head of the constituency and she should be involved. I wasn’t informed of anything. They elected their council of elders without my knowledge. I don’t even know the council and opinion leaders they chose. I don’t even know them,” she lamented to Joy News on Thursday.
She alleged that the chairman hired thugs to beat and frustrate prospective candidates who expressed their intentions to contest the chairmanship position.
Joy News’ attempt to reach Yaw Gyekye for a reaction proved unsuccessful.
