The Opposition NPP has rejected claims by President John Mahama that it is a violent political party.
Speaking at mammoth rally yesterday to round off his nationwide tour, the President questioned the leadership credentials of the NPP flagbearer and his running mate.
Subtly attacking the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its internal bickering, the president said there was no room for acid attacks on fellow party people in the 21st century politics.
He was alluding to the acid attack that claimed the life of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Adam Mahama earlier this year.
Referring to a more recent happening, Mahama also said the stabbing to death of NPP supporter Saddiq Abubakar at Asawase in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, equally has no place in Ghanaian politics.
Replying NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has faulted the president’s handling of the economy, Mr. Mahama said, “those who say ‘Mahama’s administration is incompetent’ have not come close to the presidency before.”
But in a sharp rebuttal the NPP dismissed the claims pointing to President John Mahama’s own failures to address violence in the NDC.
Anthony Kabo, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, said the President’s arguments are flawed.
“The President makes allusions to happenings in the NPP but conveniently ignores what has been happening to the NDC”, Karbo said.
He said the NPP talk of incompetence in government “is directed to the President’s person, we are talking about the NDC’s record in government. We are talking about the administration that he leads”.
