Some players in the downstream sector of oil production have reiterated the need to ensure safety and the distribution of good quality products at the filling stations.
As Ghana continues further exploration and production of oil and gas, many investors have trooped in.
In the same light, lots of companies have come on board to establish filling stations all across the nation and Ghana currently has over 3000 filling stations across the country.
At the recent Total Ghana Limited Transporters and Drivers awards ceremony, the Managing Director of Total Petroleum Oliver Van-Parys said, “safety in various sectors such as the filling station, the depots and in the transportation of petroleum products were key issues to be addressed in the downstream sector to avoid catastrophes”.
The awards included safety transporter of the year, transport CEO of the year and many other categories.
In his speech, Mr. Van-Parys further indicated that computers have been installed on their bulk road vehicle to monitor their drivers so as to ensure the drivers meet set safety standards.
He also added that “the downstream sector has lots of players and thus highly competitive. This, therefore, requires players in the sector to deliver quality products and services to their customers."
Winners at the ceremony expressed their appreciation and backed the call to maintain high safety standards in the transportation of petroleum products which they describe as a dangerous product and thus require careful handling.
