Old students of Duu Basic and JHS have supported their alma mater with 20 desks and are calling for support as students study on the floor.
The school, located in the West Mamprugu District, in the North East Region, with a student population of about 1,000 children, and all of them sit on the floor during instructional hours.

Touched by the inhumane environment the children study under, the Duu Old Students Union in Accra have donated 20 dual desks to the school to support teaching and learning.

These old students, who also sat on the same floor over 20 years ago, led by its president Zakari Bukari pulled together resources to purchase the desks.
This comes after earlier attempts by Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, an old student of the school to have the office of the Vice President support the school could not yield results.

Speaking on JoyNews, the sports journalist with The Multimedia Group said, "It is unclear if the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ever got to know [that he needed help to fix the school], but I did speak to people in his office to help us fix it."
When quizzed if he officially wrote to the office of the Vice President, he said he spoke to the people based on relationships to help.

"Maybe, I should have written officially to the office. In hindsight, yes, but I remember the gentleman I spoke to asked me to provide some data - the number of desks we needed, the price per desk and whatnot, and I made that available. I followed up many times, but it was not done.
He clarified that "I didn't speak to the office of the MP for the area, Madam Lariba, but the Vice President's mother's village is just a five or ten minutes drive away from Duu so when he's going there, he will see, but that's not a major issue if he hasn't paid attention to how bad the school looks, what matters is that, we need help.
"If the Vice President, the MP, corporate organisations and philanthropists out there are willing to help, we would be extremely grateful. We have started something.

"We are not many, we are just about 20 of us, and we have been able to get 40 students off the floor, please come to our aid to help some more. We need help.
"The JHS has about 130 students, and the rest of the students are in the primary. We need about GHC 40,000 to fully provide furniture for the JHS.
"I think 500 pieces of furniture would be enough for the whole school," he stated.
The furniture is not the only area of concern. When it rains, students have to go home.

Aside from competing with animals to use the classrooms because there are no doors and windows, some of the classes do not have roofs and children can't study.
