Accra Great Olympics handed city rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak their heaviest defeat in the history of the two Clubs when posted a 5-1 humiliating score line to win the first ever Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Millennium City Cup at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Sunday.
The match aims at raising funds to support the AMA's Educational Trust Fund to support the provision and development of educational infrastructure in the Greater Accra Region.
The Wonder Club began the demolition exercise as early as the 4th minute, when Raphael Quartey put them ahead.
Five minutes on, Hearts were presented with a spot kick to put the game at level, but Ishmael Aryee surprisingly shot over the bar but was target to make amends in the 14th minute, when he connected home a perfect cross from Douglas Nkrumah.
After both sides struggled to have dominance but it was the "Dade Boys" who went to the recess with a lead as Quartey scrambled in the second goal in a goal mouth melee from a lethargic defence.
Having won both home and away matches of the Premier League this season, Hearts resumed the second half with determination to change the tide of the game and created several scoring chances but lacked what it takes to covert them.
It was rather Olympics who extended their lead in the 62nd minute through Eric Adjei, whose long range shot hit the cross bar and dropped behind the goal line for referee Joseph Wellington to point to the center spot after some few seconds of hesitation.
Olympics sustained the pressure on Hearts after the goal by putting the breaks on every department of the Hearts set up courtesy, guest players Joe "Bobby Short" Tagoe, Winfred Dormon, and Emmanuel Clottey.
It was during one of such raids that saw Hearts defender Suleman Karim pulling down Dormon for another penalty for the Wonder Club, which was easily converted by Clottey in the 72nd minute and that goal totally shattered the dreams of Hearts in pulling up any last minute surprise.
Olympics were however not satisfied with the score line and in the 90th minute, they went ahead to score the fifth and final goal through Adjei, whose long drive for the second time hit the roof of the net and was met with an instant applause from the scanty soccer fans that watched the fund raising exercise organised by the AMA to raise funds for educational development.
The Millennium City Trophy was presented to the enthusiastic players of Olympics by Dr Alfred Vanderpuije, Chief Executive Officer of the AMA ably supported by Nii Nortey Dua, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and some Members of Parliament and match officials.
