Ghana striker Opoku Agyemang gave his return to full fitness a boost by scoring in Al Sadd’s 1-1 draw at Alwakhra in the Qatar Stars Cup on Saturday night.
Agyemang was making his first start in nine months after recovering from a knee injury which ruled him out of the 2010 World Cup finals.
The 20-year-old opened the scoring for Al Sadd on three minutes but Adel Ramzey equalized for Alwakhra on 67 minutes.
The speedster believes the goal will psychologically help him win the fitness battle.
“It’s been a very long time since I played and this goal is very important for me to be fully fit. I am very happy to have scored and I dedicate it to my fans and those who prayed for me during those difficult times,” Agyemang said.
“I hope to pick my old form before the league resumes in February.”
The 2009 Fifa Under-20 World winner claims he is making progress and will not take much time to recapture his nerve.
“Before the match, the doctors asked me to play for only 45 minutes but I realized I could continue so I played for 80 minutes. I know I will not take long to become fully fit.”
The Qatari Super League is on break for the Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup and will bounce back next year.
