Managing Director of Graphic Communications, Kenneth Ashigbey has called on Ghanaians to transfer basic business principles to sports.
Speaking at the launch of the 4th Accra Sports Expo, Mr. Ashigbey said the sports business is growing at a fast pace and investing in it will change the face of sports.
He cited South Africa as a country making money from sports, using the basic business principles instead of the philanthropic tendencies of other African countries.
Making references to some of Africa’s highest paid sports personalities such as Samuel Eto’ and Michael Essien, Mr. Ashigbey stated that Africans have great potential in sports and thus appealed to participants at the 4th Accra Sports Expo to begin the campaign of empowering the youth to revolutionize the development in sports in Ghana and the rest of Africa.
The Sports Expo themed “Promoting Africa’s Talents Globally: Role of Sports Business” is being organized by RICS consult.
The event has been broadened from the base of football to other sporting disciplines. This year’s event begins from May 15 to 17 and takes the form of exhibitions, workshops and sports clinics for selected Senior High Schools.
Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Chairperson for the event, also appealed to governments to remove stumbling blocks often used to discourage people with initiatives for sports growth.
