Reverend Enoch Pobe, Minister in charge of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on the Greenwich Meridian in Tema, has called on parents in the country to seek the welfare and development of their children to enable them to become responsible adults in future.
He expressed worry that abandonment and neglect of children had resulted in problems like child labour and the phenomenon of street children.
He gave the advice on Tuesday when the Church made a donation including toiletries, rice, vegetable oil, fruits, used clothing and shoes to the Kinder Paradise Children's Home at Prampram.
Rev. Pobe advised parents to give birth to the number of children they could cater for, to guarantee a bright future for them.
Mr. Hanson Svanikier, Secretary of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee of the Church, said the donation formed part of a programme for the celebration in May 2009.
He said it also gave the Church the opportunity to share with the less privileged in society as Christmas involves sharing and showing of love.
Ms Lilian Forson, Supervisor of the Home, thanked the Church for the gesture and urged other organisations and philanthropists to support the facility.
She said the Home, which was established 10 years ago, by a German Missionary with 15 children, now catered for 61 orphans, street children and disabled children.
Ms Forson said the Home has its own basic school and a furnished computer laboratory to ensure the education of inmates of the facility.
