A Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams says the Petitioners deserve no applause from Ghanaians for seeking redress at the Supreme Court. According to him the petitioners had no option than to choose the court in seeking redress because the election was not called in their favour by the Electoral Commission (EC). The NPP after the election, petitioned the Supreme Court and sought to invalidate the declaration of president Mahama as president-elect by the Electoral Commission. The party, through Nana Addo and others asserted that the election was marred with irregularities, malpractices and violations and will therefore not accept the declaration in favour of the NDC. Many have lauded the petitioners for choosing to go to court for redress than taking to the streets but Kofi Adams believes going to court is the only option. However speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, Kofi Adams rubbished the assertion and demanded to know whether the petitioners had any army to go to war than the court. The NDC deputy scribe says the constitution stipulates clearly that if anyone is dissatisfied with the election, he or she should proceed to court so “where from these applauds people say we should give to the petitioners?” “I find it strange and laughable when people say the petitioners should be applauded for going to court because I think they had no option. Did the petitioners have any army to go to war or fight the government? What they had is the court so people should [stop] praising the petitioners for the decision” he stated. He reckoned nothing will change after the verdict of the Supreme Court because the country has a government and things are moving on smoothly. The spokesperson to former president Rawlings insisted Ghana will be united after the election petition, adding that the warmongers and doomsayers will be shamed. “My conviction is that Ghana will continue to work and nothing will change. The country has its policies and programmes in place so I think it will continue. Those declaring war and making wrong pronouncements will be shamed because nothing will happen” he opined. Mr. Kofi Adams lauded the live telecast of the petition stating that it has enabled the citizenry watch for themselves all that happened in the election. He also lauded all the parties in the Election Petition for being professional in the discharge of their duties as well as the judges. He singled out Justice Atuguba for praise for his humorous character, which he said, calmed tensions down.
