The Director of Education and Training of the Pharmacy Council, Mr Kenneth Opoku-Adjei, has warned that it would deal drastically with Chemical Sellers who flout laws and standards in their operations.He therefore asked chemical sellers to adhere to the regulations, which governed the issuance of licenses for change of ownership and location to avoid sanctions.Mr Opoku-Adjei gave the warning when addressing the closing session of the third in the series of training seminars for Chemical Sellers and Shop Assistants at Hohoe.They were drawn from Jasikan, Kadjebi, Hohoe and South-Dayi districts.It was jointly organized by the Council and Ghana National Chemical Sellers Association (GNCSA) under the auspices of Food and Drugs Board (FDB).Mr Opoku-Adjei urged them to operate within the limitation of their licenses and not breach any of the conditions for their issuance or violate the standard of operation.He warned that members who prevented the task force from inspecting their premises would be prosecuted.Mr Opoku-Adjei said chemical sellers who contravened the Pharmacy Act 489 of 1994 committed an offence punishable by a fine, imprisonment or both.He said a fine not exceeding five million cedis or a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years or both could be imposed on recalcitrant members.Mr George Awunyo, Chairman of Volta Region Branch of GNCSA said they had an important role to play in health care delivery in the country and pledged that their code of conduct would be strictly enforced.However, he appealed to the council to allow members to dispense some "Class B" drugs to save lives and not be limited to drugs in category "C".Source: GNA
