Vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe is waiting on Kwesi Nyantakyi, president, to see if he will continue in office as the FA's second in command. Pappoe on Thursday claimed overwhelming endorsement to keep his membership on the Executive Committee of the GFA after polling 41 of the 48 available votes at the Division One elections to fill its four slots on the Board and says he is waiting is on Nyantakyi for a second term. The Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee told GNA Sports, “obviously, I am interested in carrying on as the Vice President but I first want to wait until the Regional elections are done and we have a full Executive Committee. “But ultimately, if the President feels I must continue to serve in my capacity as his deputy, I will gladly do so”, he added. Per the GFA’s status, the 22-member Executive Committee is mandated to elect a Vice President on its first meeting and it is expected that the President will submit names of those he desires to work with before the voting period. Pappoe claimed he was pleasantly surprised by his landslide victory which he attributed to the delegates faith in him and a reward for his hard work over the years. “I knew I would pull it off in the end but the nature of the victory is not something I expected. I knew I would get 36 votes and to have five extra is a pleasant surprise." “It is an indication that the delegates appreciate the work I have done so far and are also reminding me that there is a lot more work to be done going forward.” Pappoe who stood on the ticket of Accra Great Olympics FC and had the most votes in the elections that had 11 aspirants vying for the four slots, was closely followed by George Kwasi Afriyie with 36 votes. Wilfred Kwaku Osei, Tema Youth and Kwaku Eyiah of Tarkwa United amassed 30 and 24 votes each to complete the slots. Ghana qualified for her maiden World Cup at the 2006 global meeting in Germany and the subsequent one in South Africa in 2010 under Pappoe’s watch as the Chairman of the Black Star’s Management Committee.Source:GNA
