The Peoples National Convention has donated 20 bags of maize to the Tamale Relief Fund as part of its support to victims of the rainstorm disaster that hit the Tamale metropolis.
Dr. Edward Mahama, Leader of the PNC, who made the donation said it was the party's widow's mite to help alleviate the sufferings of the people who had been rendered homeless.
He described Tamale as the heart of the PNC and prayed that such a disaster should never occur again.
A severe rainfall hit the Tamale metropolis on April 21, 2007 and destroyed a total of 750 private homes, 59 government bungalows, 36 schools, 180 street light electricity poles and displaced 6,900 people.
The total cost of the destruction stands at about ¢39.8 billion.
"If a person in need cries out for help, anyone who responded to him, means the person has love for him", Dr. Mahama said.
Present at the occasion were Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, Second National Vice-Chairman of the PNC, Dr. Somtin, treasurer and some regional executives of the party.
Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, who received the donation commended Dr. Mahama for his personal interest in the welfare of the victims of the rainstorm.
He said the committee put in place to handle the relief items had so far performed credibly and promised that the maize would be given to those who needed it most.
