One hundred and four suspected armed robbers have been rounded up in a swoop in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
The suspects are believed to be terrorizing residents in communities including Asafo, Bantama and Abonsamgyam in Mamponteng.
In a related development, one suspected armed robber was shot dead by the police on the Mamponteng road at dawn today.
This was made known at a news conference by the Ashanti regional police command in Kumasi.
Regional police commander, DCOP Augustine Gyening told the media: “What they do is that when somebody is moving at night they attack the person either with a locally manufactured pistol or with a knife to rob the person."
He mentioned the nickname of one of the suspected armed robbers as Dead Body and described him as a “terror”.
He called on persons living in the region who have fallen victim to any robbery activity to help identify them.
