The Police in Accra, Friday night arrested three armed robbers at the GREDA Estates at Teshie Nungua after battling them for nearly three hours.
Another robber however managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses say the robbers armed with an AK 47 riffle had earlier attempted to rob a shop along the 3rd Avenue around 8.30pm.
But some onlookers raised an alarm forcing them to scale a wall into a nearby house.
Police patrol teams which quickly came in, spent several hours firing shots to overpower them but the robbers did not easily give up.
A combined team of over 20 police and military personnel had to cordon off a wide area when the robbers tried to escape by scaling from one compound to the other.
Deputy Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who joined the operation, told Joy News the robbers’ plan of taking off their shirts to take cover failed and led to their arrest.
He described the operation as “a good achievement” for the officers while commending the residents for providing swift information which subsequently enabled the officers to also respond in like manner.
Some residents who witnessed the Hollywood style operation commended the security men for their swift response.
