The Bibiani Police are holding an 18-year-old student of the Bibiani Senior High School, for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old boy to death.
Danso Abayie was reported to have hit the head of Yaw Brenya on the ground many times resulting in the boy becoming unconscious.
Brenya reportedly died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after he was referred there from the Wiawso Government Hospital.
Abayie is said to have told the police after his arrest that the incident occurred when he attempted to fight two evil spirits which had taken refuge in the boy.
The Sefwi Wiawso District Police Commander, DSP Raymond Kofi Erzuah, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said the suspect told the police that the two evil spirits had manifested in the form of lightening to him on Saturday August 25, 2012.
He said the suspect claimed that it was in the course of fighting the two spirits that he hit the head of the boy on the ground many times.
Mr Erzuah said some members of the community had it tough to even rescue Brenya from the grips of Abayie, who they claimed had assumed "extraordinary strength".
He said after Brenya was rescued, some members of the community rushed him to hospital while the police were notified to effect the arrest of Abayie.
Mr Erzuah said the suspect had since been remanded in police custody and is to re-appear before the court on September 3, 2012 on a charge of murder.
