The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured residents and visitors of Akropong of adequate security before, during, and after this year’s Odwira Festival, which climaxes on Friday, October 24, 2025, with a grand durbar of chiefs and other commemorative activities.

In a statement, the Command said security personnel will be deployed across the Akropong township, the durbar grounds, and major highways to ensure the safety of all participants. The police noted that their presence will be visible day and night to maintain peace and order throughout the celebration.

As part of the security arrangements, the Command outlined a number of regulations to be strictly observed.

It said no weapons of any kind will be permitted at the durbar grounds, and the firing of live ammunition within the municipality is strictly prohibited.

The police said only individuals officially sanctioned to perform musketry will be allowed to do so, and they must be properly tagged and easily identifiable.

In addition, motorbikes will not be allowed beyond the old Assembly junction in Akropong. Designated parking areas for motorbikes include the Audit Service premises and the old court premises.

For effective traffic management, specific areas such as Shoe Fabrique, the Municipal Assembly, Dachie Junior School, Christ Church Park, and the Old Court Premises have been designated as official parking spaces.

The Command also advised that traditional activities heralding the Odwira Festival, such as the visit of Amaprobi to bring the Odwira, should be conducted during the day to ensure adequate security coverage.

Motorists traveling to the Eastern Regional capital and beyond are encouraged to use the Ofankor–Pokuase–Nsawam road or the Dodowa–Somanya–Adukrom route to avoid heavy traffic that typically builds up on the Ayi-Mensah–Aburi–Mamfe stretch.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful celebration but cautioned that any miscreants or troublemakers found attempting to disrupt the peace would be dealt with according to the law.

“We wish to assure everyone that our visibility will be felt everywhere to ensure that all persons go about their activities in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility,” the statement added.
