The Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA has donated classroom desks and books to Akropong M/A Basic School in the Eastern Region as part of its commitment to improving access to quality basic education and promoting literacy among schoolchildren.
The donation, carried out in partnership with Making Learning Happen, a non-governmental organisation that provides furniture to under-resourced schools, aimed to address critical furniture shortages at the school while enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.
In addition to the desks and books, members of the Club organised a reading clinic to encourage early reading habits and boost pupils’ confidence and interest in literacy.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA noted that the initiative reflects the Club’s vision of making sustainable and practical contributions to education and development.
The President emphasised that providing a conducive learning environment is key to unlocking children’s potential and ensuring that no child is left behind due to a lack of basic resources.
The Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA is part of Rotary International, a global humanitarian organisation with over 1.4 million members worldwide, dedicated to advancing peace, supporting education, promoting health, and fostering community development.
The Assistant Headteacher and staff of Akropong M/A Basic School expressed profound appreciation to the Club and its partners, noting that the desks would significantly reduce classroom overcrowding and improve pupils’ comfort and concentration. Teachers also welcomed the reading clinic, describing it as a timely intervention that rekindled pupils’ enthusiasm for reading.
Pupils, visibly excited, eagerly tried out the new desks and books, with many expressing joy at having adequate space to read and write comfortably. The Head of the Parent-Teacher Association and other community members present commended the Rotary Club for implementing an intervention that addressed real and immediate needs.
The donation forms part of the Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA’s broader service agenda, which prioritises education, youth development, and community empowerment. The Club reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners and local communities to deliver impactful projects in line with Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”
