Mampong Divisional Police Commander, Mr Edward Oduro Kwateng, has appealed for public support in the fight against crime in the country.
He said the police alone could not combat and manage crime due to its complex nature.
Mr Edward Oduro Kwateng was briefing the press on Monday at Asante Mampong on his recent visit to areas under his jurisdiction, to interact with police personnel, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
Places he toured included Nsuta, Kwamang, Beposo, Effiduase, Kumawu, Oyoko, Agona, Jamase, Wiamoase, Ejura and Sekyredomase.
The Divisional Police Commander, mentioned drug related crimes, land and chieftaincy disputes as some of the cases threatening peace in the districts and appealed to the people to provide the police with information to enable the law enforcement agency to fight crime.
Mr. Kwateng said without peace there could be no meaningful development and urged traditional rulers to use their rich experience to settle disputes amicably before they escalated into serious conflicts.
He commended the chiefs and the people at Nsuta, Oyoko and Wiamoase for initiating office and residential accommodation projects for police personnel and appealed to government to support the people to enable them to complete the projects.
At the Mampong Campus of the University of Education Winneba (UCEW), the Divisional Commander caution the authorities and students to be security conscious and appealed to the University to design special programmes for police personnel in the area to enable them to upgrade their professional skills.
