Power supply has been restored to the Information Services Department this morning after the Electricity Company of Ghana disconnected it two weeks ago.

The ECG cut power supply to the department because of a GHȻ120,000 debt owed it.

Speaking to Joy News, Acting Director of the Department, Joel Arcton Tettey said during the two weeks power cut, workers had to depend on a generator – which only powered crucial departments.

He said the department was unaware that it owed the ECG until their power was taken but could not confirm if the amount stated by the ECG was correct.

Mr Tettey indicated that the department will startegise and pay up its debt to ensure that the situation does not occur again.

Meanwhile the ECG as, part of its measures to bring efficiency into its system has hinted that it will be disconnecting public institutions indebted to it during the Christmas break.

This means that some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), schools and hospitals will be without power at the beginning of next year.

Public Relations Officer of the ECG, William Boateng said it was agreed at a meeting with the Energy Ministry, that government will no longer pay utility bills for public institutions.

He explained that all public institutions were to pay their bills from January this year, but with less than two weeks to end of the year, several public institutions have not paid a dime.

He said every district has been tasked to retrieve monies owed by the institutions in their area.
