The President, John Evans Atta-Mills has slashed the number of ministries to 23, four less than previously.
This was announced by Mahama Ayariga, spokesperson to President Mills at the Castle on Friday.
Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Public Sector Reforms have been scrapped as well as those of Fisheries and Aviation.
This is in line with meeting the campaign promise of a lean government.
Explaining the details of the reduction, Joy Correspondent, Stephen Anti, said the Minister of Transport would now take oversight responsibility for Railways, Ports and Harbours.
The Ministries of Sports and Education which hitherto were combined would now be made substantive Ministries.
The President has also nominated Mr. Kofi Opoku Manu as the Ashanti Regional Minister.
Mr. Manu is a former Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance.
The nomination brings to 16 the total ministerial nominations made by President Mills.
The nominees are yet to be vetted by the Appointment Committee of Parliament.
