Health Expert Kwame Sarpong Asiedu has warned that over 700 COVID-19 patients may require serious care in the next three weeks.
According to him, the COVID-19 recovery rate has been very slow over the period since the first positive case was recorded in March 2020.
As of June 13, Ghana's case count stood at 11,964 with 4,258 fully recovered with 54 deaths. 7,652 persons are still on admission at various treatment centres.
Speaking on Prime Morning with Daniel Dadzie on Joy Prime, Mr Asiedu indicated that the country's positivity rate has shot up to about 24% from 3% between June 1 and June 15. This he said, shows community spread of the virus.
"Our active cases have been going up consistently. That is an indication that two to three weeks down the line, about 10% of active case will require more serious care. This translates into 700 patients who will need serious medical attention" he said.
He also attributed the failure of individuals to adhere to the various safety protocols to the recent spikes in COVID-19 cases in Ghana.
Mr Kwame Sarpong Asiedu said Ghanaians have failed to comply with personal hygiene etiquette, wearing of face masks, avoiding crowded areas and keeping to social distancing in a manner that will slow the spread of the virus.
He contended there has been enough COVID-19 information but public education has not been effective.
Kwame Sarpong Asiedu called on government to adopt measures to reduce the increasing active cases in order not to overwhelm the various treatment centres.
