A Koforidua High Court presided over by Mr Justice Simon Suurebareh has sentenced a 25-year-old man Kwame Ampadu to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for gang raping a 31-year-old married woman.
The judgement was the verdict of a seven-man jury who by a unanimous decision found the accused guilty.
Two other accomplices of Ampadu, Sani and Kwabena Ofori are on the run.
Mr Fred Tetteh, a State Attorney prosecuting told the court that at dawn on January 6, 2006, the victim who deals in ginger brought her wares to the new lorry park at Nkawkaw for sale.
He said on her way back home, she realised that Ampadu and his accomplices were trailing her therefore she quickened her pace but was overpowered and they demanded that she surrendered all her money.
The prosecution said the victim who had no money on her was searched by the three persons who were wielding cutlasses and then ordered to follow them to the area where she left her goods.
Mr Tetteh said on the way, they dragged her to a nearby bush, gagged her and raped her in turns and after the act bolted.
He said a report was made to the police and during investigations the accused was arrested and charged with the offence while his accomplices were on the run.
