Contractors have completed the rehabilitation of the Galosota Bridge to connect the people of Galosota and Atiteti near Anyanui as well as other small towns in the Keta Municipality.
The Galosota Bridge which was constructed some 21 years ago, serves as an important link between residents of the towns to access several facilities, such as health centres.
The bridge as a result of wear and tear was desolate for some time, cutting off access to key amenities and facilities.
You may recall that Joy news sometime last year carried a story on the situation, calling for urgent steps to be taken to remedy the problem.
Almost a year later, the people of the two Volta Region towns and other communities in the area can now sing for joy with the completion of the project.
The Member of Parliament for the Area, Hon. Kofi Humado, said the rehabilitated bridge is set to among other things revive trade activities between South Tongu and Anlo townships.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways through the road agencies had been performing routine maintenance works on the bridge but had to stop upon realising that the bridge needed a rehabilitation.
The site Engineer, Aaron Amponsah, also expressed gratitude to the people for their cooperation.
He commended the Member of Parliament for the area and government for their efforts in helping improve the lives of the people.
Nathan Ojdao, the Bridge Maintenance Engineer of the Department of feeder roads, also reiterated the importance of the rehabilitated bridge.
The rehabilitation works include replacement of the deck plates, replacement of corroded bolts and nuts, repair of damaged deck frames and changing of severely damaged ones, painting of the entire bridge with anti rust and aluminium silver oxide.
The rehabilitation project cost Ghc 790,635.00.
The Project Manager of Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highways Commission, Sheik Aminu Abubakar told Joy News the rehabilitation works initially estimated to be completed in 60 days, was completed in 41 days.
