Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic has been approached to become the new technical director of Ghana, according to local reports.
The 45-year-old who is currently managing the Serbian national team on an interim basis has opened preliminary talks with the Ghana FA to partnerBlack Stars coach Kwesi Appiah to fashion out a technical policy that will permeate all the national teams.
Reports fast gaining currency suggests the Ghana FA will be insisting on the appointment of an expatriate technical director as one of the conditions for the contract renewal of coach Kwesi Appiah.
Appiah presided over Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cupbut the Ghana FA had already resolved to hand the former Black Stars captain a two-year contract extension even before the tournament commenced in Brazil.
The GFA however appear wobbly on that stance in recent days with reports they are being pressured by authorities in government and some members of the powerful executive committee to tweak the technical set up in a grand way.
Appiah according to the website of newly established Starr FM, will be told of the news of the imminent appointment of an expatriate technical director when he returns to the country from an extensive holiday to sign onto his contract renewal which had been agreed on in principle.
Appiah who took over the Black Stars reigns in 2012 from Goran Stevanovicaccording to sources, will reject this condition and step down as coach of the side.
Reports of the appointment of a technical director became prominent in the lead up to Ghana’s abortive campaign at the 2014 World Cup.
This follows statement made by former Ghana FA boss MND Jawula and the then aid to the former Minister of Sports Yaw Ampofo Ankrah that Appiah was incapable of managing the team on his own.
German Klaus Topmoller and Serbian Milovan Rajevac were linked to the role but the Ghana FA insisted it had no plans whatsoever to make such an appointment.
The association however stressed they would consider making such an appointment only at the request of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.
