Residents of Bonsu Nkwanta have attacked the police station for rescuing a suspected robber from a mob attack.
The angry residents thronged the premises of the police on Thursday asking for the release of the suspect in custody to be killed.
According to Adom News' Augustine Boah, the residents have been complaining about the surge of robbery cases in the Bonsu Nkwanta and its environs in the Juaboso district.
As such, when the three men were caught stealing they wanted to punish them to serve as a deterrent to other criminals in the area.
Augustine Boah said although one of the suspects managed to escape, his two accomplices were still in the grips of the angry residents.
He said one was subsequently beaten and burnt to death.
However, the last suspect was saved from that fate when the police intervened.
The move has made the residents unhappy.
In an attempt to drum home their anger, the resident pelted the police with stones and vandalised some properties.
The police, therefore, called for reinforcement from regional headquarters.
The suspect in a hectic nature was taken from Bonsu Nkwanta police station to Sefwi Wiawso, the regional headquarters for further investigation and interrogation.
Meanwhile, calm has been restored now at Bonsu Nkwanta.
