Rita Marley, wife of legend Reggae icon Bob Marley joined hundreds of Ghanaians to keep vigil at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Sunday to usher in the Centenary Celebration of Ghana’s First President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.Candles were lit, as the celebrants enjoyed rich cultural displays and poetry renditions evoking the heroic works of Dr. Nkrumah.The celebrants converged at the venue after long procession through the principal streets of Accra, amidst brass band music, singing and dancing.The ceremony also attracted CPP stalwarts like Nady Nylander chairman, Dr. Abu Sakara, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. as well as Prof. Akilakpa Sawyer who is chairman of the planning committee.Dr. Esi Sutherland Addy a member of the Planning Committee in an address reiterated the profound achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as a torch bearer of Africa’s struggle for independence and hoped the centenary celebration will inculcate in Ghanaians the spirit of hard work and selflessness.She admonished the youth to be inspired by the principles of the late first president and strive to achieve their future desires.Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was full of praise for the organizers for putting together a bipartisan celebration.He expressed the hope that the celebration will reinforce the need for Ghanaians to recommit themselves to the peace and progress which were all ideals of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.He said the president John Evans Attah Mills will address Ghanaians in a dawn broadcast as part of the celebration.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
