On Friday in Rabat, Saint Lucia reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including sovereignty over the Sahara region
It endorsed the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the “only credible, serious, and realistic solution” to resolve the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
This commitment was expressed in a joint statement following talks between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Saint Lucia’s Minister of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation, and Diaspora, Alva Romanus Baptiste.
Saint Lucia also highlighted the growing international consensus and the proactive efforts led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco’s sovereignty.
In the statement, Baptiste commended the United Nations’ role as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic and lasting resolution to this dispute.
As a member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Saint Lucia welcomed the recent establishment of OECS diplomatic missions in Morocco—a regional embassy in Rabat (opened in October 2018) and a consulate in Dakhla (opened in March 2022)—marking a significant step toward strengthening ties between Morocco and the six Eastern Caribbean states.
