The daughter of Ghana's first President Samia Nkrumah would this evening touch down at the Kotoka International Airport from Italy to begin her efforts at building a political career in the country. Samia, also known as Yaba, told the DAILY GUIDE newspaper that she had a burning desire to play a role in the political advancement of this country. According to the paper, she would be meeting with various polit¬ical bigwigs to consider what options are available to her and what role would suit her best. Samia was certain that any political ambition she might pursue would be on the ticket of the Convention People's Party (CPP), which she expressed much confidence in. Already, her brother Sekou Nkrumah who resides in Accra is having a good time with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Asked if she intends representing any of the constituencies in Parliament, Samia said she would not rule out that possibility but added the decision was not hers alone. She stressed that if becomes necessary for her to con¬test a parliamentary seat or serve in any other position she would gladly accept the challenge. "It is a good time to be home to contribute my bit to the country of my birth and to continue the vision of Kwame Nkrumah. We do not want that vision to be misrepresented and the best time for me to do my part is now", the Daily Guide quoted her as saying. She said Ghana as a country had made giant strides in its quest for democracy and good governance and that she believed the future of the country was bright. Samia said having good faith in Ghana was not enough and that she considered it her responsibility to come home and contribute to the development and advancement of the country. "Really, I think we have come a long way. There were times when it was quite turbulent. Though things are not perfect we have demonstrated there are good prospects for the future," Samia added. She debunked the assertion that her father's party, the CPP, had become cold and was no more a force to reckon with. "There is a new CPP out there and fortunately there is a call for change and I do hope that the CPP is in a position to provide that change. "I think as a party we have a great opportunity before us and I think this is a good time to capitalize on that opportunity. "The new CPP has a lot of good people and we can do very well," she indicated. There are reports that she would be con¬testing the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem parliamentary seat on the ticket of her father's CPP and that in the next few weeks she would be picking the party's nomination forms. The CPP has already opened nomina¬tions for its members who want to contest the parliamentary elections. The sitting MP, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, would be contesting the presidential elections this year and is reported to be schem¬ing heavily to ensure his party retains the seat. Source: Daily Guide
