During a follow-up meeting of the 'Tangier Appeal', organised on the sidelines of the MEDays Forum, five former African foreign ministers signed this 'Appeal', initiated on November 4, 2022, in Tangier.
These are David J. Francis, Urbino Botelho, Ezechiel Nibigira, Albert Mabri Toikeusse and Cheikh Tidiane Gadio.
Respectively they are the former head of diplomacy of Sierra Leone, Sao Tome & Principé, Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal, who are initiators of regional round tables on the subject of the expulsion of the pseudo 'SADR' from the African Union.
This brings to 23 the number of signatories of the 'Tangier Appeal' since its launch a year ago.
On this occasion, the signatories welcomed the continental impact and the dynamic generated by this initiative and expressed their desire to further strengthen them.
This was done while reiterating their commitment to continue working for " the urgent exclusion" of the pseudo 'SADR', a non-state entity, from the African Union.
The growing commitment in Africa in favour of the Moroccan character of the Sahara was also welcomed by the signatories.
They stressed that the multiplication of consulates general in Dakhla and Laâyoune testifies to the vitality of pan-African dialogue and the common desire to overcome divisions, inherited from a bygone era, to build a prosperous future in Africa.
The signatories also welcomed the content of Resolution 2703 of the United Nations Security Council, recognising that the Sahara conflict can only be resolved through a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution.
They also stressed promoting pragmatism, realism and the spirit of compromise, which characterises the Moroccan autonomy plan.
Likewise, they reaffirmed their full support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the only solution for the definitive resolution of the regional dispute around the Moroccan Sahara.
While welcoming the international support that it continues to garner, they called on the African and international community to fully adhere to the Moroccan Autonomy Plan to put an end to this conflict which has lasted too long.
The signatories also reiterated their full commitment and their total mobilisation for the achievement of the objective of the expulsion of the pseudo "SADR" from the African Union.
This, they believe is an essential prerequisite for the return of impartiality and credibility of the Pan-African Organisation on the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
