Uncle of deceased student of St. Pauls Senior High School (SPACO) who was killed by a stray bullet has expressed disgust at how Police prevented his dying nephew from receiving immediate medical attention.

Yashau Turawah says Rakhid did not die immediately after he was shot last Saturday. He alleged, the Police refused to allow students to rush him to the hospital to save his life after the accident.

The family of the 17-year old Visual Arts student in the Volta Region are therefore accusing the officers of being complicit in the death of their son.

The police went to the school to restore order following rioting by students. The violence occurred after students attempted to beat up two students they caught engaging in homosexual acts. School authorities had shielded the students, an action that infuriated the students.

According to the uncle, the police prevented his dying nephew from receiving any medical help and was only taken to a clinic on a bike by a determined colleague who could not stand the police any longer.

“When they realised that the guy was even on the ground and other colleagues wanted to rush to help him, the police was preventing them. It took the courage of one of them”. Why should the police leave him there and he had to be taken on a bike to a clinic?” he told Joy News.

He had words for school authorities whom he believes were negligent in informing the deceased family after the shooting incident.

According to him, it had to take a call to the mother by one of the students that same night to relay news of their ward’s passing.
