Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is hoping to bring Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari to the Stadium of Light on loan this month.
The Black Cats are targeting the Inter Milan midfielder and Paris St Germain’s Stephane Sessegnon amid an injury crisis which is threatening to derail the club’s impressive start to the Barclays Premier League season.
Muntari, a 26-year-old Ghana international team-mate of John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan, has experienced English football in the past with Portsmouth, who sold him to Inter for ÂŁ12million in July 2008.
Benin international Sessegnon, 25, recently signed a new contract, but is understood to be available.
Bruce has moved after learning that David Meyler is likely to be sidelined for some time despite scans revealing he has not ruptured his cruciate ligament for a second time.
Danny Welbeck and Lee Cattermole face several weeks on the sidelines with hamstring and back injuries respectively.
Muntari has been struggling to get playing time at Inter Milan.
