The Secretary-General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress, Mr Akwasi Adu-Amankwa, has called on stakeholders in the labour arena to work towards the successful implementation of the Labour Act (Act 651) to bring sanity to the labour front.
He said even though there were challenges in the implementation of the Act, there was the need to address them to make the law functional in the interest of labour.
Mr Adu-Amankwa made the call at the opening of a two-day labour forum in Accra to identify values to be shared by stakeholders on the labour front.
The forum, which is being organized by the TUC, is aimed at reviewing the challenges facing the labour front, as well as factors militating against the successful implementation of the Act.
The TUC Secretary-General noted that for the smooth implementation of the Act, there was the need for cooperation between stakeholders, saying that this would only occur if there were good relations between stakeholders and they also shared the same values.
He called on the labour front to intensify its efforts to ensure industrial harmony at all times, saying: “Without work life cannot go on and we must share the same values.”
