The Supreme Court is to rule today on whether or not it was appropriate for the State to pay judgement debts to embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.Former Attorney General Martin Amidu filed a writ at the court in his quest to help the State to retrieve the GH¢52 million which he contends, was wrongfully paid to the businessman.Mr. Amidu who said he took up the case in the “public interest” argues the state cannot incur liability for any foreign transactions without parliamentary approval.Mr. Amidu dragged Woyome to the Supreme Court together with his successor, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor, Waterville Holdings (BVI) Limited and Austro-Invest Management Limited to seek the reliefs.He prayed the court to make a declaration that the manner in which the A-G paid sums of money in Euros to Waterville in purported pursuance of claims arising out of agreements between the parties in April 2006, is inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the 1992 Constitution, “particularly Article 181(5) thereof and is each accordingly null, void, and without effect whatsoever”.The court will sit on the matter today, Friday, and is expected to give its final determination of the matter.
