Some residents of Tafo in the East Akyem District of the Eastern Region are complaining about non-supply of water for the past four months.
The residents say they rely on hand dug wells and the two boreholes in the area for drinking water.
According to them, officials of the Ghana Water Company have failed to explain the long disruption in supply.
But Joy News checks reveal that the dam has since February this year run out of water due to the dry season.
Joy News’ Eastern regional correspondent, Benjamin Henaku who visited the dam site said the town’s source of water for the treatment plant has dried up, and since February 23, the dam has been dormant.
Two sedimentation tanks which are usually full during operations are now empty, while the huge supply pipes and pumps at the plant are all dry.
The dam, under normal operations produces 100,000 gallons of water daily under a 24-hour operation for supplies to Old and New Tafo, as well as Kukurantumi, all in the East Akyem District of the region.
The Eastern Regional Manager of Acqua Vitens Rand, consultants for the Ghana Water Company, admitted that periodic tanker supplies to the area to supplement local efforts have been woefully inadequate and disclosed plans to provide two mechanized pumps to ease the situation while more permanent solutions got underway.
