Farmers in the three northern regions have expressed their frustrations about their inability to get fertilizer for this year’s farming season.
According to the farmers they have been converging at the main supply depot in Tamale for the past three weeks without much success.
They are worried crop yield this year could be affected if they’re unable to get their supplies in good time.
“It is about three weeks today in the depot and we couldn’t find a single fertilizer for our farmers; our farmers are struggling and their crops are even going to spoil,” one of the frustrated farmers told Joy Business.
Suppliers of the fertilizer meanwhile say they are unable to supply because the government owes them about five million dollars for previous supplies.
Otoo Mensah who is with Yaara Fertilizer told Joy Business the government had failed to pay arrears owed the company in 2009 which has put the company in dire financial straits.
