The police in Sunyani have arrested and placed in custody Opoku Sarpong, a 37 year old Geography teacher of Nkoranza Secondary and Technical School for impersonation.
Chief Superintendent Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Sunyani Municipal Commander of Police told the GNA that on May 15 this year the controller of the West Africa Examination Council office in Sunyani sent a letter inviting one Francis Andoh Kwaw, also a teacher in the school to attend an examiners’ committee meeting.
He said when the letter got to the school, Sarpong, who knew his colleague had left the school decided to attend the meeting himself.
The next day, the accused posed as Mr. Kwaw and attended the meeting, filling all the forms given to him in his colleague’s name and signed for an amount of ¢300,000.
The Police Commander said at the end of the meeting Sarpong was given 80 scripts of the just ended WAEC examinations to mark and submit later.
Chief Superintendent Yohuno added that after marking the scripts he submitted them at the WAEC office but was identified by another colleague who was the leader of their team as an imposter and quickly reported to the controller.
He said Sarpong admitted the offence during interrogation by the controller and was handed over to the police.
