The head coach of Black Satellites, Desmond Ofei, has lauded his players for their effort and commitment despite Ghana’s inability to secure qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The national U-20 team returned home after a quarter-final exit from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. The Satellites were edged out by the host nation in a penalty shootout, losing 5–4 after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Speaking after the team’s arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Ofei remained upbeat and proud of the squad’s overall display.
“The players gave their all,” he said.

“They showed heart, discipline and true Ghanaian character. I’m extremely proud of their dedication throughout the tournament. Though we didn’t achieve our ultimate goal, the effort and commitment were unquestionable.”
Ofei and his boys entered the tournament aiming to secure one of the four continental tickets to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, but their dream was cut short by the defeat.
The leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, Alhaji Abu Hassan ‘Rhyzo’, also praised the team’s performance and attitude.

“The boys gave a good account of themselves. They may be disappointed now, but they’ve shown that the future of Ghana football is still bright,” he remarked.
The Black Satellites are expected to regroup in the coming weeks to prepare for future WAFU A and B U20 competitions to be hosted by Ghana in June.
