Executive Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong has confirmed that, there will be major changes in the helm of affairs at the club’s management, technical and playing body next season.
According to Dr. K.K Sarpong, the number of management staff at the Club will be considerably reduced to ensure effective running of Asante Kotoko.
Speaking on Asempa Fm’s Sports Morning Show on Tuesday, he noted that, proper channels are being laid to get the club back on track to compete well in all levels of football in Ghana and Africa.
Dr. Sarpong hinted of major recruitment for the upcoming season and confirmed the signing of Kofi Nti Boakye, Ben Acheampong, Charles Agyei Mensah and Burkina Faso under 20 captain Sako Iddrisu.
He believes there are more to come but will remain silent on any possible move till they reach an agreement with the players and their clubs.
He debunked media reports alleging that, the club’s tour to Serbia was to sell most of their players to earn money to run the club.
He added that, the club’s trip to Serbia was a useful one since it gave most of the players the opportunity to explore and expose themselves to what they are planning to build for Kotoko.
Dr. Sarpong stated that, winning trophies is important in the history of every club but there should also be structures to ensure a proper running of the club.
He called on the Kotoko fraternity to grant him time as they look ahead to build more facilities and a more sustainable income flow for Asante Kotoko.
Touching on the proposed “top-8 tournament” by the Ghana League Clubs Association, Dr. Sarpong stated that, Kotoko will not participate in any tournament since they are only aware of a “top-4” competition in the country.
He added that, Kotoko will engage in more pre-season friendlies to get the team ready before the 2011/2012 league commences.
