The Banking Sector has registered a new entrant. Royal Bank has been granted a provisional license by the Central Bank to start operations.
Royal Bank is one of three Ghanaian institutions the Bank of Ghana was considering their applications to operate as commercial Banks.Joy Business has gathered the two non-bank institutions earlier mentioned to be soon licensed as universal banks are First Capital Plus and First National Bank.
Joy Business has learnt Royal Bank which has no experience in the banking business got its interim license last month. It is owned by licensed cocoa buying company, Global Haulage and some Ghanaian investors.
The Bank should however in the next six months demonstrate whether it has the personnel, structures and the minimum capital before its gets its full license to operate.
Meanwhile Joy business sources say another foreign bank is also set to receive provisional license to start operations.
