Tigo Ghana is set to roll out its new 057 block of 057 numbers from Tuesday, May 3, 2011, Adom Business News can confirm.
This new addition to the Tigo family will compliment the current 027 block of numbers.
Official sources at Tigo told Adom News the new number block has become necessary due to the ever growing patronage of its products and services by the general public.
The source said subscribers who join the 057 block would enjoy the same great quality of service and benefits that Tigo offers its current subscribers.
Tigo would be the second to introduce the ‘05’ block of numbers after market leader MTN introduced their 054 block of number over a year ago.
Telecom industry analysts say the timing of the release of 057 numbers was strategic as Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is set to be introduced in Ghana from July 1, 2011.
“The additional block of numbers creates an opportunity for Tigo to comfortably accommodate more subscribers when MNP comes on board,” a Tigo source said.
But Tigo Ghana Boss, Carlos Caceres has said he does not expect MNP to have any significant impact on mobile market share in Ghana.
Tigo is the second leading mobile network operator in Ghana with 3,999,262 subscribers by the close of December 2010.
