Total Petroleum Ghana Limited has introduced a new range of solar lamps AWANGO BY TOTAL onto the Ghanaian market. This is in line with the company’s commitment to providing access to energy for all people, a programme which the Total group started in 2010 under the theme “Total Access To Energy”.
Speaking at the launch of the lamps, Total’s Managing Director, Oliver Van Parys reiterated his company’s commitment to providing reliable, affordable lighting to make life easier for low-income, off-grid households.
According to him, Ghana is the 30th country on the growing list of the countries with AWANGO BY TOTAL. Most of these countries are mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia where one thing is common -lots of sunshine. But these countries also face challenges with lightening due to low levels of electrification which have resulted in a prevalence of load-shedding.

In response to the energy challenges, the Total Group has so far sold over one million lamps, impacting over five million people worldwide. Total hopes to impact 25 million people through the sale of five million AWANGO BY TOTAL solar lamps by the year 2020.
The launch ceremony attracted authorities, the media, dealers and retailers.
The AWANGO BY TOTAL solar lamps come in four different designs, some of which can be used for charging mobile phones. Available at all Total Petroleum service stations across the country as well as authorized distributors, the lamps, which are up to 7 times brighter than kerosene lanterns, are weather-resistant with lifespan of at least 5 years.
