Kwaku Danso, trader, 25, who allegedly assaulted Mr Gershon Gadzekpo, Adaklu Anyigbe District Coordinating Director (DCD), at Kpetoe on Thursday has been arrested and detained by the police at Kpetoe.
Mr Gadzekpo who briefed the Ghana News Agency at Kpetoe said the incident happened when he went to the Kpetoe Market to calm the nerves of Danso who was engaged in a brawl with revenue collectors over payment of tolls.
He said Danso, who was selling his wares in the market refused to pay the 10GHp (1,000 cedis) required of him and this degenerated into a heated argument between him (Danso) and the revenue collectors.
Mr Gadzekpo said Danso was said to have verbally attacked the revenue collectors.
He said when Danso's conduct was reported to him, he hurried to the market to cool down tempers and also to talk to Danso to pay the money.
He said on reaching the market, Danso, who might have thought he was one of the revenue collectors because of his diminutive stature, assaulted him.
The DCD said he reported the case to the Police who arrested and detained Danso.
A police source at Kpetoe confirmed the story but said they were still investigating.
Meanwhile, Mr Gadzekpo has appealed to people in the District to pay their levies and rates to enable the Assembly to generate enough revenue to initiate development projects.
"All levies and rates are needed to develop the young district as we can not rely solely on the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to move forward".
