Foster Oppong, a 12-year-old boy died Friday when a cargo truck loaded with charcoal crashed into the building he was sleeping with his parents at Aboantam, near Asante Mampong.
His mother, Comfort Pinaman and stepfather, Kwadwo Anto, were seriously injured in the accident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwadwo Gyasi, Asante Mampong Divisional MTTU, Commander, told the Ghana News Agency, that the accident occurred at about 12.30 midnight on Friday.
He said the Benz cargo truck loaded with charcoal was travelling from Kwame-Danso in the Brong Ahafo Region to Kumasi.
DSP Gyasi said on reaching Aboantam Township, the vehicle could not climb the hill and in the process ran into a nearby house where the victims were sleeping and killed the boy instantly.
He said the injured have been admitted at the Asante Mampong government hospital while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
DSP Gyasi said the driver and the mate of the vehicle bolted after the accident but the owner of the vehicle, Timothy Osei, who was in the vehicle had been placed in custody, while frantic efforts were being made to arrest the driver and his mate.
