The Agogo Presbyterian Hospital and the Konongo-Odumase Government Hospital have taken delivery of hospital equipment worth 230,000 dollars.
The equipment, which included surgical beds, anaesthetic machines and hospital beds, were donated by the Association of Asante Akim Citizens living in Canada.
Mr. Alex Asante, Chairman of the association who handed over the equipment to the hospitals at separate ceremonies, said the donation was their widow's mite towards the improvement on health delivery in their communities.
He said the association was committed to the welfare of the people back home and would continue to support health facilities and educational institutions in the area.
Mr. Thomas Mensah, General Manager of the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, who received the equipment, commended the association for the donation.
He appealed to the association to consult the hospital in their subsequent donations to ensure prioritised equipment is provided to make them useful.
Nana Batafo Akyeampong Nti, Chief of Konongo, said the association had been contributing to the development of the area and appealed to the government to waive taxes on such equipment to encourage Ghanaians abroad to support local institutions.
