Two men have been shot dead in Bawku this morning. Reports reaching Joy News say the two, a Hausa and Moshie were on their way to Burkina Faso when they were shot dead in an area dominated by the Kusasi group, one of the feuding factions in a chieftaincy conflict with the Mamprusis that exploded on New Year’s Eve in 2007 resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property. According to a resident who spoke to Joy News, the military have retrieved the bodies of the victims, but no arrests have been made yet. Bawku and surrounding areas have been under a curfew since the fighting broke out. The curfew was however reviewed only yesterday March 10, 2008 to start from 8pm to 5am. The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. K. T. Hammond told Joy News’ Parliamentary Correspondent, Araba Coomson that the curfew would be reviewed again following the shooting of the two men. Mr. Hammond who received the news of the shootings while he was in parliament to make a statement said, he is yet to be briefed on the full details of the incident.
